Overview
Sodium chloride (NaCl) is the workhorse of the chloride family — the same salt used for high-volume road de-icing and for water softening, depending on grade. As a de-icer it is the most economical option per tonne and clears the majority of winter events down to about −9 °C, which is why it is the default for municipal road networks and large commercial lots. Softener and treatment grades run to 99 % purity, alongside the standard de-icing grade effective to −9 °C.
Above that temperature there is rarely a reason to pay for anything stronger; below it, sodium chloride slows down and crews shift to calcium chloride. Many programs pre-wet sodium chloride with brine to make it stick to the road and start melting sooner, stretching each tonne further.
In water treatment, high-purity sodium chloride recharges the resin in water softeners and feeds brine systems. The cleaner evaporated and pellet grades dissolve with little residue, which is why commercial and municipal softeners favour them over coarse salt. We supply both the technical de-icing grade and high-purity treatment grades.
