From municipal water plants to commercial softeners, chloride salts keep treated water clean, soft and within spec. Hardness, flow and discharge rules differ from one site to the next, so the salt you choose — a high-purity sodium chloride for most softeners, or potassium chloride where sodium has to be kept out of the water or the wastewater — should follow the system and the regulations, not just the lowest price per bag.
Softening and resin regeneration
Water softeners work by passing hard water through a resin that swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium; that resin is recharged with a strong sodium chloride brine. Clean, high-purity softener salt regenerates the resin efficiently and leaves little residue to foul the brine tank — which is why evaporated and pellet grades are preferred for high-use commercial and municipal systems over cheaper, less pure salt.
The potassium chloride option
Where sodium in the softened water or the discharge is a concern — for sodium-restricted use, sensitive landscaping, or local effluent limits — potassium chloride substitutes directly for sodium chloride softener salt. It costs more per tonne and the system may use slightly more of it, but it adds no sodium to the treated water at all.
Process and municipal water
Beyond softening, chloride salts are used in brine systems, pH and mineral balancing, and a range of process-water applications. Municipal and industrial facilities need consistent purity and reliable supply, both of which we back with documentation and contract volume delivery nationwide.
Bagged, bulk and scheduled supply
Water-treatment and softener salt is bought very differently depending on the site. A single commercial softener might take bagged pellet by the pallet, while a municipal plant or a property with many softeners orders bulk NaCl on a standing schedule. We supply both — bagged and palletized grades for hand-loaded brine tanks, and bulk sodium and KCl for high-throughput systems — with resupply timed to your regeneration cycle so a softener never sits in bypass waiting on salt, and a certificate of analysis wherever the treated water has to be documented.
